Foundations of House of the Flying Trees have been laid
During an official ceremony on July 29 a capsule with a message for the future generations was placed in the foundations of the most special of projects - HOFT.
The HOFT project consists of two 7 storey multi-apartment buildings that are interconnected by an underground parking for 23 vehicles. The building on Strelnieku Street is a monument of architecture with two additional storeys built on top. The building in the courtyard is completely new. There are a total of 42 apartments in the project with their size ranging from 76 m2 to 232 m2. Each apartment has a balcony that is no less than 1.80 m wide, big, bright floor-to-ceiling windows which provide a spectacular view on the courtyard and the trees.
Construction works of these multi-apartment buildings were commenced back in December of 2018, more than 16 million euros were invested, of which 8.9 million were provided by a bank.
HOFT is a masterfully crafted blend of historical architecture, nature, technology and art. An absolutely unique hovering oasis is positioned above the carefully preserved and restored historical façade, just like a glass showcase built for the masterpieces of design that have been crafted by the nature itself. The unique concept of flying trees means that cedar and mountain pine bonsai trees will be placed on the façade of the modern building, as well as on the terraces and special mounts.
Apartments on the façade side of the historical building will enjoy the view on the beautiful building of Stockholm School of Economics and on Alberta Street, but apartments on the courtyard side have a view on the large growing trees. HOFT concept provides truly magnificent window views. The gracious silhouettes of the trees decorate the laconic modern architecture with reflections of their delicate quirky, arched branches and evergreen crowns in the cold reflection of glass. The installation makes an incredibly strong impression, the trees grow just as if they were in their natural habitat on the mountaintops and slopes.
Two architects are working on the implementation of design and project concept - General Manager of OPEN AD architect office Zane Tetere-Sulce and Dita Lapina from KROKS architect office. “The building is located in a UNESCO protected area, in a part of the city with a significant heritage of historical architecture, therefore special attention has been devoted to preserving the historical features and adhering to authentic planning principles and their revival. The facades and structure of the historical building have been supplemented with modern objects, thereby integrating state of the art technology and elements that are more typical to 21st century style and trends, which provides a striking contrast“.

Architects and landscape designers are not only designing parks, squares, and gardens, but also utilizing alternative opportunities: architectural constructions on rooftops, balconies, terraces and special mounts. There are also cities that are very proud of their landscaping policy. Such efforts are often spectacularly integrated in the architecture of modern hotels, offices and residential buildings. HOFT project is a reflection on the subject of not only maintaining the presence of nature in a city, but also on how to increase its presence by making use of modern technology,“ says Zane Tetere Sulce.
Cooperation with Zane Tetere Sulce continues while working on the interior design. As is the case with all projects developed by the company R.EVOLUTION, a special philosophy has been embedded into the HOFT project. The lobby, stairways and rooms in the apartments are a logical continuation of the architecture, interconnected with the overall concept of the project. The interior is a bit like scenography. The volume and the composition of frames is made and crafted with the utmost precision. Even the tiniest detail is custom made for this project in line with the architect´s drawings. Colour, light, shape, smell, feeling, everything has its meaning and an assigned role, everything is geared towards a common goal - creating a special atmosphere of life.
