Construction of Philosophers Residence has been completed
July 9th marked commissioning of one of the most noteworthy multi-apartment complexes in Riga - Philosophers Residence, which is located at Ranka dambis 34. These buildings, which together with the first sky-scrapers Saules akmens and Z-Towers are shaping the futuristic area of the capital of Latvia, are an architectural tribute to the 18th century German philosophers and enlighteners Johann Georg Hamann and Johann Gottfried Herder, who got their inspiration from the surroundings and environment while spending time in Riga.
The architecture of the buildings are an extension to the general concept of the quarter. The buildings visually resemble a pile of books stacked on top of each other, in which each level is a new book with a new content and a new philosophy. The varying size and positioning of terraces and balconies of each apartment help the architect to accomplish the difficult task of visualizing this idea and providing a possibility to enjoy a meditative peace of mind for its residents. In order to provide the best view on the Alley of Philosophers and Old Riga, the first residential level is elevated 14 meters above the ground, just the load bearing columns and a hall with 12 meter high ceiling is at the ground level, housing a spacious library for the residents of this project.
Construction of this multi-apartment building complex was commenced back in October of 2017, more than 20 million euros were invested. There are 120 modern business class apartments in the Philosophers Residence project. Its residents will have access to landscaped territory, outdoor and underground parking. Unique design of the lobby, elevators and hallways is yet another advantage of this project. Architect Kronbergs is convinced that the completion of Philosophers Residence will have a positive knock-on effect on the development of the whole area in Riga on the left side of Daugava.
“These buildings will change the silhouette of Riga on the left side of Daugava, as well as contribute to the urban planning and infrastructure development, gradually creating an area that we call the New Center. It is likely that over time the south end of Kipsala will become the new business district of Riga packed with high-rise buildings. Philosophers Residence provides a great impetus for the development of this area,“ he adds.
Philosophers Residence is one of the most modern new projects not only in Riga, but in the whole Latvia. Even when it was still under construction, it already was an integral part of the panoramic view on the left side of Daugava, and now has become one of the symbols of modern architecture in Riga. However, this was more than just a project that evokes emotions, it was also full of challenges, as complex technical solutions had to be implemented in both multi-apartment buildings in order to bring to life the architectural vision of its authors.
“For example, one of the greatest challenges was constructing the upper floors of the buildings, as starting from level 10 the volume of the buildings increases,“ explains Toms Reizins, the Board Member of SIA Velve, a construction company that built the Philosophers Residence.
“Philosophers Residence sets a completely new
business-class housing standard for Latvia. Even though it already had
high design standards, guided by the principle that perfection lies
the details, we have improved this product during the course of its
construction. For example, we chose a more expensive and more visually
attractive finish, as a result of which the coating is much more
weather resistant. The self-cleaning ceramic façade of our towers
produces oxygen when exposed to sunlight. The finish level in the
apartments is of the highest standard, double glazed windows in wooden
frames with aluminium supports that have a heat transfer coefficient
of 0.5 were used. Absolutely no compromises were made in respect to
the quality or the technical solutions when designing the buildings.
Currently apartments in the Haman building are offered for sale, and
50% of the apartments are already booked, which means that the
consumers appreciate the high level of quality and the special
lifestyle of Philosophers Residence characteristic to all projects of
R.EVOLUTION,“
